Vishal Madaan, MD<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Vishal Madaan joined the APA on August 1, 2022, as the Chief of Education & Deputy Medical Director.\u00a0 In this role, Dr. Madaan will work closely with the Council on Medical Education and Lifelong Learning to provide high-quality and innovative medical education for psychiatrists and other mental health clinicians to advance patient care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Madaan’s most recent posting was at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Virginia.  He served there in multiple capacities, including a tenured Associate Professor in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry; Training Director, Child Psychiatry Fellowship Program; and Director, Center for Psychopharmacology Research in Youth.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Madaan received an MBBS in 1995 from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, MD University, Rohtak, India, and continued there through 2001, completing a Residency in Psychiatry.  From 2004 to 2009, Dr. Madaan completed a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and Residency in Psychiatry at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Madaan was honored in 2019 as a Distinguished Fellow, American Psychiatric Association, and in 2015 as a Distinguished Fellow, American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.  He has served as a member of several committees at the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (AADPRT), including the Taskforce for Studying Faculty Burnout, the Executive Committee, and multiple terms on the nominating committee.  From 2018-2022, Dr. Madaan also served as the International Medical Graduate (IMG) Caucus Chair at AADPRT.  He was inducted into the University of Virginia’s Academy of Distinguished Educators in 2015 and, in the same year, received the APA’s Nancy Roeske award for excellence in medical student education.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Madaan has been active for many years with APA serving as the Chair and Vice Chair of the IMG Caucus and as a member of the Editorial Board of FOCUS: The Journal of Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry and most recently as the Vice Chair of the IMG Workgroup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
