Departmental Awards and Promotions

Dr. Robert Trestman was reappointed as Chair of the APA Council on Healthcare Systems and Financing.
Dr. Badr Ratnakaran was appointed as Chair for the APA Council for Geriatric Psychiatry.
Dr. Anita Kablinger was elected into the Virginia Tech Carilion chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha.
Dr. Kiran Khalid was appointed as a committee member to the American Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s Early Career Psychiatry Committee for a 2-year term.
Dr. Ahmad Khan was appointed as Associate Program Director of Carilion Adult Psychiatry Residency.

Recent Lectures

Dr. Badr Ratnakaran, Dr. Kate Liebesny, and Dr. Robert Trestman individually presented lectures at the Psychiatry Society of Virginia Annual Spring Meeting.
Dr. Kiran Khalid and Dr. Badr Ratnakaran presented a lecture together at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry in Atlanta, GA

General Adult Residency and Child Psychiatry Updates
The adult psychiatry program is excited to announce the incoming class of PGY-1 residents starting in July 2024. There were over 1162 applicants and 92 interviews for our eight positions. The incoming residents are:

Trey Giorcelli MD, MBA – West Virginia University School of Medicine
Matthew Leon DO – Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Obiaku Okoronkwo, MB CHB – Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology School of Medical Sciences
Jin Park MD, MPH – St. George’s University
Sushma Reddy MD – University of Virginia School of Medicine
