VCU is delighted for our accomplished fourth year residents to be graduating! A few residents have chosen to continue their education, including Dr. Shahida Mizan who will be attending forensic fellowship at the University of Maryland, Dr. Ali-Noor Jessani attending forensic fellowship in Dallas, and Dr. Jasmine Saini who will be attending addiction fellowship at Yale.
Additionally, several residents have decided to start their careers in clinical practice:
- Dr. Gurjas Bajaj will be working at Chesterfield CSB
- Dr. Iakovos Anastasakis will be at Virginia South Psychiatric
- Dr. Amy Bryant will be practicing inpatient in Abingdon, VA
- Dr. Stephen Ellis will be practicing outpatient at Duke University
- Dr. Akanksha Patel will be practicing outpatient at Allina Health in Minneapolis
- Dr. Chaman Sharma will be practicing in the greater Virginia area
- Dr. Mithun Dhinakaren is practicing locums in Colorado

We also had a large interest from the PGY-3 class in pursuing Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) fellowships this year. As such, Dr. Linh Nguyen (Louisiana State), Dr. Ke’Asia Craig (University of Southern California), Dr. Ahsal Major (Houston), Dr. Lijia Zhang (California-Davis), and Dr. Linh Vu (NYU) will be continuing their education with CAP fellowship.
Additionally, we welcome 11 incoming psychiatry resident interns;

- Dr. Isabel Aycock (University of New Mexico) will be attending our new integrated CAP track.
Regarding our faculty changes in the past year, Dr. Bushra Shah has taken the mantle of Program Director for the residency program director and is now completing her first year in the role. Our new Assistant Program Directors are Dr. Kathyrn Jones and Dr. Jason Burton. Additionally, VCU has proudly welcomed Dr. John Beyer as Vice Chair of Ambulatory Services and Dr. Kinsey Bise has been promoted as VA inpatient director of Hunter Holmes McGuire Hospital.
