Carilion Clinic-Virginia Tech SOM would like to welcome and introduce our 8 new interns:

  • Jackie Cleary is a graduate of Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Her professional interests are centered around inpatient psychiatric care.  
  • Justin Goolcharan is a graduate of St. George’s University and is interested in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry. 
  • Samantha Matthews is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina.  She is interested in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as well as Geriatric Psychiatry. 
  • Kajal Mawa is a graduate of Dayanand Medical College.  She is interested in Addiction Psychiatry. 
  • Shweta Patel is a graduate of Government Medical College in Surat, India.  She is interested in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as well as LGBTQ+ mental healthcare. 
  • Dana Sharma is a graduate of Marshall University, Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.  He has a strong interest in Inpatient Psychiatry and Interventional Psychiatry involving TMS/ECT modalities. 
  • Karishma Soni is a graduate of St. George’s University.  She is interested in Psychopharmacology and Academia.  
  • Amin Syed is a graduate of Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He is interested in General Adult Psychiatry and LGBTQ+ mental health care.

Other program news

Through Dr. David Hartman and Dr. Cheri Hartman’s policy work and advocacy, Carilion Clinic is now transitioning from an OBOT to OBAT (Office-Based Addiction Treatment).  The change will allow for a full spectrum of substance use and addiction treatment.  

The Department of Behavioral Medicine would like to announce the expansion of the Center for Grief and Healing, led by Dr. Paula Wolfteich.

Dr. Bonnie Hennig-Trestman and Dr. Robert Trestman recently gave invited presentations to the Israeli Huntington’s Disease Association in Tel Aviv, Israel.
