The following attended APA Annual Meeting and presented posters:

  • LT Aaron VanDyne: Study aimed to identify sailors at risk of administrative separation from the Navy and intervene to reduce risk of separation. He also examined ways in which collaboration with and education of military leaders would be effective in reducing these disparities.
  • LT Terrence Currie: Case study of a 19-year-old United States Marine Corps (USMC) recruit with a pre-service history of polysubstance abuse, PTSD, and Borderline and Histrionic personality traits, who sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face while on the shooting range at Marine Corps boot camp and ultimately diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder.
  • LCDR Carrie Dillon: Case study highlighted atomoxetine-induced clitoral priapism.
  • LCDR Savannah Woodward: Presented about the importance of female mentorship within military medicine.

In military-related news, the Brandon Act was recently approved. The new process allows service members to seek help confidentially, for any reason, at any time and in any environment, and aims to reduce the stigma associated with seeking help. More news to follow regarding the expected internal outcomes.
