On May 17, Psychiatry residents from VCU Health attended the reception at The Warsaw for Delegate Betsy Carr. Two third year residents, Elizabeth Dietrich and Hena Yakoob, and two first year residents, Michaela Hurley and Harleen Singh, were pleased to join attending psychiatrist, John Urbach, for mentorship on political advocacy events.
This event was an exciting opportunity for residents to get exposure meeting local elected officials and learning about advocating for mental health reform. Betsy Carr’s history of advocacy for mental healthcare made her an opportune official to learn about her platform. Delegate Carr commented that “it is excellent to see trainees preparing to spread access to mental healthcare across Virginia.” Additionally, it was fascinating to hear from her about the recent redistricting changes occurring in Virginia and how these elected officials are evolving to these changes.
