Legislative Update

PSV has been busy in the legislative off season this year! On Friday June 9, Drs. Joe Mason, Meredith Lee, and John Shemo joined a dozen other physicians in Charlottesville to hear from Senator Creigh Deeds on his efforts advancing mental health care access in Virginia. We enjoyed a beautiful evening discussing what we need as providers to offer our patients quality care.

Drs. Sherin Moideen and Kara Beatty will be joining the Medical Society of Virginia for their Advocacy Summit on Friday, June 16. They will be presenting a resolution to support and further the Collaborative Care Model in our primary care settings. We know this proven model increases access and quality of mental health care and look forward to building a coalition with other providers to support this effective model in Virginia!

We are continuing to engage with the Youngkin administration’s TDO (Temporary Detention Order) Taskforce to help address the TDO backlog. Stay tuned for a save the date to a Psychiatric Townhall for us to gather and discuss how our profession can pitch in to help!

Lastly, keep any eye out for a special legislative update coming to your inboxes soon!
