We have some exciting updates for the EVMS psychiatry residency! Our program continues to expand in new ways. We welcomed new faculty this year:

  • Dr. Kelsey Johnson who is EVMS alumni with fellowship training in geriatric psychiatry
  • Dr. Abbey McLean who is EVMS alumni with a focus on consult-liaison psychiatry

We were also able to secure permanent funding for 6 residents per class (historically class sizes have ranged from 4-6). Additionally, we are welcoming Dr. Kelsey Johnson to the role of assistant program director. In Summer 2023, we will launch our first psychiatry fellowship at EVMS in child and adolescent psychiatry with program director Dr. Mary Gleason. This will be housed in the Children’s Pavilion of CHKD which opened in 2022 and is a state-of-the-art freestanding pediatric mental health hospital.

We are saying goodbye to our PGY4 residents:

  • Dr. Dylan Golomb – accepted to Thomas Jefferson University Addiction Psychiatry fellowship
  • Dr. Max Simonsen – accepted a position at Kaiser Permanente in Burke, VA in outpatient psychiatry

Our residents have been staying busy with conferences and scholarly activity:

  • Dr. Seth Warren (PGY-3) spoke at the 2022 Eastern Region HIV/AIDS fall summit

  • Dr. Shefali Hegde (PGY-3) won 2nd place for her poster at the 2022 PSV fall meeting – Zolpidem “Awakening” in a Case of Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis
