President's Message: Looking Back on the Fall Meeting

Dr. Beatty

Hello fellow Psychiatrists! I hope that you all are remaining happy and healthy in this ever-changing world.

I want to give a big “thank you” to everyone that made it through the inclement weather to join us at Wintergreen for our Fall Meeting! It was a great chance to meet up with colleagues and make new friends. I was honored to present Senator Creigh Deeds with our “Legislator of the Year” award at the Friday night reception. The scientific session on Saturday was very well-received. I appreciate the positive feedback that many of you have given me about the program.

My hope is that we all left this meeting with a clearer understanding of the social determinants of mental health. Having that awareness is the first step to making changes.

I was fortunate enough to meet many of the young student doctors and aspiring psychiatrists that attended the meeting. You are our future and have the power to make this world a better place. Please remember that you are not alone on this journey. Those of us that are further along on this path will serve as your mentors. I can say this with confidence because many of you have already served as a mentor to me during different parts of my career.

In the spirit of the season, I want to send my deepest gratitude to all of you that have helped me along the way. I wish you all happy holidays!
