Richmond, Va. – The Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) Foundation announced William L. Harp, MD, received the Foundation’s 2022 Salute to Service Award for Outstanding Service to the Profession.
Dr. Harp is the Executive Director of the Virginia Board of Medicine and has over 30 years of healthcare experience. He is a graduate from the Medical College of Georgia and completed a residency in Psychiatry at the Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Harp has served his patients and the Commonwealth for over 20 years on the Virginia Board of Medicine. He has practiced psychiatry as a resident at the Medical College of Virginia, in the US Air Force, in group private practice, in a state psychiatric hospital, and in solo private practice prior to taking the post at the Board of Medicine. His work on the opioid crisis has been recognized by the Richmond Academy of Medicine and the Federation of State Medical Boards.
“Bill Harp has served the patients and physicians of Virginia in a dedicated but understated way,” said Claudette Dalton, MD. “He has never wavered from doing what is right and best for patient care. His patience and sangfroid are legendary, and he has established a department that works tirelessly but efficiently to protect and serve. He is truly a special individual as both a physician and a person.”
The MSV Foundation created the annual Salute to Service Awards in 2004 to recognize outstanding efforts of physicians, residents and medical students who are dedicated to creating and nurturing a caring health promotion and disease prevention environment by providing service on behalf of patients everywhere.
The Medical Society of Virginia Foundation presented the 2022 Salute to Service Awards at their annual Physicians Gala on October 29, 2022, at the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia.
