EVMS Medical School Update

By Chelsey Rountree, MD
Eastern Virginia Medical School
Norfolk, VA

  • Melanie Gonzalez-Saavedra, PGY-2, attended the annual American NeuroPsychiatric Association conference in Montreal, Canada, where she presented a poster “When Medications Collide: A case of Zolpidem and Paliperidone Palmitate LAI Triggering a Crisis of Hepatic Encephalopathy and Post-Injection Delirium Sedation Syndrome”.   Oyindamola Akinnusi, MS4, assisted Dr. Gonzalez-Saavedra on the poster and presentation, while Dr. Jessica Mees-Campbell oversaw the project as attending.
  • Dr. Janelle Milstead and Dr. Sequoia Sheely presented an in-service talk to the dermatology department on psychiatric consultation services and frequently asked questions about psychiatric care.
  • EVMS Psychiatry Research Day is upcoming in May, at which time multiple residents and students will be presenting their original research and case studies.
  • EVMS Psychiatry welcomes Melissa Gillespie, psychiatric NP, who will be splitting time between NDAC and outpatient clinic. She is originally from northern California but has lived in Hampton Roads for almost 10 years. She and her husband, Quinton, have three children and two dogs.
  • The residency program has had a successful match, with six of six spots filled.  We look forward to introducing the new intern class in the summer newsletter.
  • Dr. Chelsey Rountree will begin fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at CHKD starting July 2025.
  • Dr. Viktoriya Kozlova will be stepping up as PSV liaison on behalf of EVMS.
