WINTER 2024 ISSUE

Your Contribution to PsychMD Will Ensure That Psychiatry Receives the Attention and Support it Deserves in the Commonwealth

Dear Members of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia,

Government relations play a vital role in every industry, particularly for those of us in medical practice. Psychiatrists face significant stakes in the political process on a range of critical issues, including regulatory changes, patient access to care, reimbursement policies, and efforts to improve patient safety. The Psychiatric Society of Virginia’s Political Action Committee (PAC), PsychMD, is instrumental in enabling us to advocate effectively with the Virginia General Assembly to advance pro-psychiatry legislation.

However, our current contribution levels are insufficient to ensure our voices are heard in an increasingly crowded and contentious political landscape. Without adequate funding, the PsychMD PAC cannot effectively support legislators who champion our profession and our patients. This support is crucial as we approach the 2025 elections, where key positions, including the governor, lieutenant governor, and all seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, will be on the ballot.

As we prepare for this pivotal election cycle, it is critical that we have sufficient resources to monitor and influence legislation that impacts psychiatry. With upcoming workgroups addressing neurocognitive disorders and discussions on emergency psychiatry and Temporary Detention Orders, our expertise and advocacy are needed now more than ever. Our input as psychiatrists is crucial to shaping these conversations and ensuring that policies reflect the needs of our patients and our profession.

Help elevate psychiatry, strengthen professional relationships, and amplify the voice of our field in Virginia. Your contribution will ensure that psychiatry receives the attention and support it deserves in the Commonwealth.

Please consider making a contribution to the PsychMD PAC to ensure psychiatry remains at the forefront of legislative decision-making in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

You can securely donate online at https://www2.psva.org/forms/PsychMD-PAC.iphtml, or by writing a check payable to PsychMD PAC and mailing it to: 118 N. 8th Street, Richmond, VA 23219.

Thank you for your commitment to advancing psychiatry in Virginia. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the future of our profession and the care we provide.
