WINTER 2024 ISSUE

PSV Foundation Update

By Rizwan Ali, MD, DFAPA
PSV Foundation President

The purpose of the PSV Foundation is to promote science and education to the members of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia (PSV).  The Foundation achieves this objective by promoting education and research for Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows. Historically, the Foundation has provided funding for the poster sessions every year. In 2024, the PSV Foundation awarded $2,000 in prizes for the Fall Meeting poster session, as well as $1,455 in travel stipends to support trainee attendance for those presenting posters and traveling outside Richmond, Virginia. This year the Foundation will again provide generous funding for the prizes and stipends. We also plan to conduct seminars and workshops for the community to generate awareness about mental health issues like suicide and depression.

Special thanks to Tom Phillips, Financial Advisor to PSV for UBS. He recommended the Bob and Anna Lou Schaberg Foundation to support the Foundation.  With his help, the PSV Foundation received $50,000 in funds. That money has been invested, and the income from those investments is being used to support the educational activities of the residents and medical students. Still, the Foundation could use your help. PSV could not receive a grant from the APA to help with resident recruitment and retention.

Any funds you donate will be invested in the educational activities of the trainees for future meetings. Funds will be allocated to help with travel to both the Spring and Fall Meetings for 2025. The PSV Foundation hopes to sponsor a trainee get-together in 2025, promoting camaraderie across training programs. Furthermore, the Foundation intends to encourage trainees to stay in the Commonwealth due to the current physician shortage and many senior psychiatrists retiring.

The PSV Foundation is a tax-exempt entity, so every penny that you donate is tax deductible. CLICK HERE to donate or mail your donation, made out to PSV Foundation, to PSV, 2209 Dickens Road, Richmond, VA 23230. Thanks for your consideration and support. We are investing in the future of psychiatry.
