WINTER 2025 ISSUE

Advocacy Creeps into Hobbies

By Helen Montague Foster, MD, DLFAPA
PSV Member, Retired

Okay, I’ll admit it. Writing is a hobby for me and not a money-maker. My husband Tom and I retired nine years ago, determined to enjoy retirement before his Parkinson’s and my likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s hobbled us, but it’s hard to give up something as important as the profession I share with you, and so bits of my experience have worked their way into each of my novels.

I am happy to announce that my third book, Tidal Overlook, is due for release January 13, 2026, and you can check it out on my website helenmontaguefoster.com or on Amazon, which has posted it for preorder.

This is the second book in a series with a psychiatrist protagonist, both written in an effort to show that we are medical doctors facing lots of challenges including those posed by insurance companies. Spoiler alert: Tidal Overlook is a psychological thriller, but unlike Lost Graces nobody actualy dies in it.
